A Living Library: Inside Puvic's Daily English Corpus

Hi, I'm Kora. Welcome to PUVIC, a home-grown Chinese platform for learning English. More English, more world.

Every morning, a fresh English article appears on the platform. The same text then returns in three more shapes: a podcast, a word list and a comprehension quiz. That single idea, one article in four forms, is why this self-built and still-growing corpus deserves a closer look.

Teachers have long argued that learners improve fastest through comprehensible input, that is, material they can nearly all understand. PUVIC builds everything on that principle. Age is not the measure here. A reader in their fifties and a primary-school pupil may start from the same level. So the platform grades its content, not its users. Most daily pieces sit between B1 and B2 on the CEFR (Europe's six-level language scale, from A1 to C2). Roughly, A levels match primary school, B levels match middle school, and C levels match university study.

The daily routine is short but layered. A learner watches the podcast, listens to the audio, reads the text, collects key words, and ends with a comprehension quiz. The team calls this one text, four forms. A three-to-five-minute read can therefore grow into forty or fifty minutes of real practice. Searching a word works the same way. It returns no single dictionary line. Instead it returns the podcast, the listening text, the reading passage and the quiz where that word appeared.

Below the English, the Chinese translation comes in small blocks, so no reader loses the thread. Difficult words are highlighted, and every article states its level at the top.

Here the product answers an old complaint. Many similar sites post articles with no audio, no word focus and no syllable dividers. These are the small marks inside a word that show how it breaks into sounds. PUVIC prints them by default, because memory built on sound is the cheapest memory a learner can get. Anyone who knows basic phonics can read along with the audio and improve without a classroom.

Topics come from real-time information across the web, but every piece then passes through the platform's editorial team. The rule there is three rounds of review and three rounds of checking, all for one purpose: accuracy. So the content stays clean and the sources stay reliable. The audio follows the same standard. PUVIC works with a professional American voice team on custom recordings, and every one is published under an official license.

One new article lands every day, so the corpus behaves less like a finished textbook and more like a living library. Word blocks, a physical product now in development, should push study from the screen to the fingertips. Long-term effort is marked by up to five stars, calculated from study time. The top readers can earn a place in the IELTS exam (the international English test).

English is an unusual school subject. It keeps paying off from the primary classroom through the national college entrance exam and into university. A strong middle-school student can already score well on that exam paper. So the real question is not whether daily reading works. It is whether a learner can hold the habit long enough for both the corpus and their own ability to keep growing.
